Why ‘The Superhero in You’ Was the Book I Needed as a Kid

Growing up, I never saw a superhero who looked like me—not in the coloring books I held tight in the back seat of the car, not on the classroom shelves, not even on birthday cards. I didn’t know how much that mattered until I got older. I created The Superhero in You because I wanted today’s kids—especially Black children—to see themselves as powerful, worthy, and heroic from the jump.

This isn’t just a coloring book. It’s a mirror.

Affirmations with Every Page

In a world that constantly tells our kids what they aren’t, this book speaks directly to what they are—brilliant, bold, beautiful, and brave. Every page of The Superhero in You features positive affirmations and characters who reflect the richness of our kids’ identities.

These aren’t generic phrases either. They’re intentional, layered, and designed to build confidence with repetition and engagement.

Representation Isn’t an Option—It’s the Mission

I didn’t just want the illustrations to feature Black and brown kids. I wanted them to lead. I wanted pages that sparked pride and joy in a child’s face—because when you see yourself as the hero, your imagination goes further. This book reflects our values, our community, and our future.

Perfect for Classrooms, Homeschooling, and Gifts

Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or caregiver, The Superhero in You is a tool that opens doors for affirming conversations. It's been used in classrooms, added to reading nooks, and gifted at birthdays and community events.

And yes, we’ve been featured in the Houston Chronicle—because folks are starting to realize how deep this mission really goes.
